{simple prayer}

I wanted to share with you all some inspiring words from my beautifully pink Joyce Meyer devotional..

Matthew 6:7, And when you pray, do not heap up phrases (multiply words, repeating the same ones over and over) as the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard for their much speaking.

Joyce reminds us that we need to develop the confidence to have simple, believing prayer. we often get insecure in our prayers and don't believe that God hears even the most simple prayer such as..."God, help me." "We can depend on God to be faithful to do what we have asked Him to do, as long as our request is in accordance with His will...Sometimes we we lose sight of the fact that that prayer is simply conversation with God" (Joyce Meyer, New Day, New You devotional).

"We need to have such confidence about our prayer life that prayer becomes just like breathing, an effortless thing that we do every moment we are alive."

As I was reading these words from Joyce...I was reminded of my current fave song from the new Hillsong album, This Is Our God. The song is by Brooke Fraser, You'll Come.

As surely as the sun will rise
You'll come to us
Certain as the dawn appears

You'll come
Let Your glory fall as You respond to us
Spirit rain
Flood into our thirsty hearts again
You'll come

Maybe if we were more confident in knowing that God WILL respond to us, we would worry less. Philippians 4:6 says. Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.
Let's try it...but this time we can make our prayers simple, specific, and to the point.

Thanks for the wise inspiration today Joyce...

Great post! And so wise. We were just at church on Sunday and talking about this very thing. The word was so awesome as in it challenged us in prayer and reminded us of the power of "simple prayer". Great post Tracy!

Good post. Good reminder that prayer is conversation, and should be raw, real - and just talking to God, Father. Erwin McManus once said we shouldn't be people of prayer - we don't need more prayer. Muslims pray, Buddhists pray - we need to be people connected with the living God. We should strive to be more connected and to live that connection out.
